The assessor’s responsibilities are:
- uniformly assess properties in Santa Anna Township at a median level of 33.33% of market value to ensure equitable assessments and fair distribution of the property tax burden among all property owners.
- maintaining a file for every property in the township which includes information about the lot, drawings and photos, and descriptions of improvements. These records are held in the DeWitt County Assessor’s Office located in Clinton, IL.
- assist in the application and verification of Senior Freeze, Senior Exemption, Homeowner’s Exemption, Disabled Veteran’s and Disabled Person’s Exemptions.
Assessors do not levy, collect, or distribute tax revenues.
The office of the assessor is the only elected position that has statutory, pre-election requirements.
